Solar powered lanterns?

No, the trunk has been splitting for a few years & I knew its days were numbered.
I just planted Boston ivy at the base but it will take 2-3 years to make an impact. I don't know if I can be that patient.

Would make a lovely bottle tree with a few solar lights added!

Hang bird cages, wind chimes, or somethings like the beaded basket pictured on the FAQ (at the top of this page).
Everyone forgets that we have that from the 'old' days.

I'll echo what Nona said....I think it would be great to hang chimes, birdcages, birdhouses, etc. from the big branches....or even plants.

I don't know how aggressive morning glories are in your area, but I've been growing them up a naked umbrella for years (hoping they would get to the ends of the ribs!)
I would plant something like that to make an "umbrella" type thing, then string lights in the tree! Ooooh, also some moon flowers! Nancy

My neighbor decorates hers with season appropriate globes and lights. Orange for Halloween etc. Spotlight highlight them in the dark. It looks awe inspiringly elegant and I'm kinda jealous of her dead tree....

I live in Illinois too. In C-U. How about orange and blue lights? Of course on a timer.
