Painting a chair for the yard

I have an old ladder back chair with turned legs that I would like to paint in bands in several colors. What type of painting is this called and what would be the best type of paint for the outdoors.

I use exterior paint for all my outdoor works and then seal them with several layers of poyurethane.
Tally Ho!

I have painted several and, like beachplant, used exterior paint.
I then sprayed with a clear coat.
Mine have not been outside yet, we have had so much rain--
so can't give you any idea on that outcome..

Hey Elaine!
Post a picture when you've done it.
Good luck.

I answered you but it's not here. Patio paint will work for small areas if you want 3-4 colors on the legs. best to use undercoat & do large areas 1st if they are going to be 1 color or striped. Then do legs last. Patio paint can be gotten at craft stores & I think Wal Mart. But when finished I always Krylon clear coat it couple of times as last longer. Jan
