Does it have holes in the cover? I don't understand how it works.

Yes there are holes in the cover and it is fun to see the water move when they are eating. I read about jewel box hummingbird feeders and looked them up and they sell for 30 + dollars so I tried to make my own.

Well that looks easy enough and the hummingbird sure seems to like it!

Good idea and like the OP said,easy to clean. It takes me awhile every time i have to clean them,especially the one with the small opening.DH bought me a big pkg of different size bottle brushes,and none are perfect,but some do help.I also soak them in a little bleach water before cleaning,then rinse,rinse,rinse.

Great and cheap idea! And it seems to make the hummers perch to take a sip so you can get a better look at them. I suppose the red top attracts them too.
