First Monday Trade Days

Pulling out Thursday headed for Canton Tx.........First Monday Trade Days!!! Do any of you have booths there? It's a 100+ acre paradise!!! And I'm hoping to haul home lots of cool things! The best part is in the "back forty" it's the junking area! I don't get to spend as much time back there as I'd like, b/c there will be 4 of us going and that is not their favorite hang-out, but you'd think that in the 4 days that we will be there I'd get time to get back there for some serious hunting! Hope to post pics next week.

I have heard it is an awesome place for junkin'! If I'm ever down in Texas, it is definitely one place I'd like to visit. I know Robolady (aka Margo Arrick), who used to post here has been there with none other than Ki Nassauer of Junkmarket Style book fame and now editior of Flea Market Style magazine. In fact, their visit to the flea market in Canton was featured in the first issue of the Flea Market Style magazine. I noticed that Margo is now a contributing editor of the magazine too. Have fun and take plenty of pictures!

My hubby promised me a trip there tomorrow, but then he found out the OU-TEXAS game was playing Saturday and...........well, you know the rest!!! LOL!! I had a trip planned for some friends, but they all fell thru, so hubby thought he was really doin' something special, then he retracted the offer! I have witnesses though, I will hold out for another month!!! LOL!!

Hello all, thanks for the shout out, I'll try to answer some of your questions about Canton, it's my favorite Flea.
First let me say I'm sorry I have not been around lately. Seems for some reason my old user ID and password simply did not work anymore. I had to sign up again, so here I am and I'll try to behave this time.
The best day to shop is on Thursday, but they are open Thu-Sunday the
weekend before the First Monday of the month.
Where to shop depends on what you are looking for. If you want the "good
junk" and don't mind digging through boxes, and asking for prices, stick
    to the uncovered areas,
I call these the fields. The best area is in front of and to the side of
the Civic Center Building. The Civic Center is a blue roofed permanent
structure. There are antiques inside this building as well, but the
prices are not as good as outside. As long as you are outside in
uncovered areas, you are in a good spot.
When you arrive you'll see some covered buildings that are called the
"Arbors" and "trade Center". There are some antique vendors inside these
buildings but these items will be more expensive (and frankly they
probably bought it all out in the fields near the civic center). You'll
find a lot of new items in these covered buildings as well.
The prices are good out in the fields, and moderate in the covered
    buildings.
You are picking a good time of year to go, however September can still
    be warm so dress accordingly.
Vendors are open usually from 10-5 in the fields. Get there early and
don't be afraid to negotiate your prices.
4 days should be plenty, be careful that you don't end up at the wrong
flea market. There is one just across from the animal section that is
"NOT" canton. Look for those "arbors" buildings to know if you are in
the right place. Park along Hwy 19.
Maybe you could separate from your shopper friends for awhile, and spend
some quality time junkin out in the fields.
    Have fun,
    Margo

Can you give me information on the Vendor selling the crosses?
I think this is the one that I've been searching for forever!
    From Louisiana?
Trying to buy some from them...someone also said they were a ministry of some sort?
    Thanks!

CMay......they are a ministry. The gentleman told us they took in wayward young men and housed them for 1 year and tried to help them get their life in order and in return they had to help make these crosses and sell at craft shows and not sure where else they sell at, but that was to earn their keep. They sold finished crosses as well as unfinished so you can do your own. Their prices were VERY reasonable and their booths, as they had several there throughout the grounds, were quite busy. I just threw away literature on them about a month ago and I'm sorry but I have no idea what they were called.

CMay.....I found the info you wanted!! They are called Freedom Challenge, 12139 Old Bonita Road, Bastrop, La. 318-281-4541. Hope this helps, they didn't have a website listed on their brochure.
