Has anyone seen/done this?

I was browsing on ebay and saw these stained glass panels with plates in the middle. Such a cute idea. I thought I'd share for those of you with lots of glass who know how to solder.

The link will probably only last as long as the auctions.

I thought I saw something like that once using a sun-catcher stained glass piece.

I bet you could fake it pretty easy --get some of that glass paint, and silicone a plate to the center...

they sure are pretty though.

I love those. I have been wanting to make one but haven't found the plate that I want to use yet. Hopefully someday I will find what I am looking for.

Very cool! Something to contemplate for those of us who don't solder.

Those are pretty. I didn't realize they had so much detail til I looked at the bigger pics. They are all nice but that red one, wow. It says they are approx. 11" sq. so do you think that's a saucer? That's a good idea Beck to make a faux one if you're not set up to do stained glass work. I've thought about that too. Silicone the pcs right onto the sheet of glass. That glass paint even has a black that you can use to look like lead. A few years ago someone posted a picture of something they did, don't remember what it was, but they had filled in areas real thick with the silicone and they kind of swirled it or stippled it to make it look patterned and let it dry like that. Looked real nice.

I think it is the 6 3/4 in. bread & butter plate, my Warman's doesn't say how big the saucer is. That would allow 2 1/8 in. on each side & that looks about right. I love red glass & I would think it would be almost as nice to fake it by gluing the plate on & adding black paint around it. Would need a great window to hang it in so the light could catch all that lovely color. Of course kind of hard to fake the rest of the leaded glass look, I think. Thanks for showing us!! Jan

RE: Has anyone seen/done this?

While checking the net one day, I saw someone took an old window with seperate panes & put a glass plate in each one. Then, hung it on their fence... ADORABLE!!!

They didn't need all the extra stained glass around, it was perfect just like that. Wish I'd saved the site. :(

It's on my "to-do" list.

I've used the gray/black faux lead on other things since I'm not into painting glass and someone gave me the paint.... it sticks really well to rock.

just an idea if you have leftover paint after trying the faux window.

Photobucket

It hasn't faded and its been out for yeeears all year round.
Everything else I've ever tried, faded after one summer in the sun.

If I were going to do this window, I'd etch a saying or something onto the plate before I glued it on...I'm all about hidden messages.

That is very cool beck. I like the idea of hidden messages also. So many fancy "landscape plans" are just to look good from a distance. There is nothing pleasing or surprising when you get close. The element of surprise is one of the things that makes a garden magical. One of the many reasons that I love garden junk!
