I'm still considering the 1/2-ball ones that sit in the garden...I forgot how to split the ball in half, though. Anyone remember?

Now that is the cutest BB I've seen, hope you don't mind but I'm going to use your idea (maybe). I saved a pic of painted Ladybug BB's and attach it below. This is how I was going to do three BB's. You did an awesome job. Are the antennas in the finger holes, then filled up with wood glue? Yes, where did you get those lips, are they painted on. Again, so very cute and original.

I cut my BB in half with a saws-all. We used a
concrete block to set it on, I turned the ball,
and Bill did the cutting. It was not hard to do.
It was one of the older black BBs, not one of
    the plastic ones.
    I love the marbled ladybug!

Thanks for all the nice comments. The lips are ceramic and I found them on ebay and yes I put the antenna in the finger hole then filled it. My daughter hasn't seen it yet, it's gonna be a Christmas present. Now I have to work on one for my other daughter!

    Hi nonacook-
I think mine is a newer 'plastic' type. Not sure as I'm not 'up' on bbs. The sawzall really worked, huh? I'll get the DH to help, or else I'm certain to make a mess.

Mustafa - That is only a pic in a magazine, I believe the black faces are painted on. I started basecoating one red since last year and haven't finished it yet. I am using enamel paints and an outdoor sealer to protect it from the elements.
