More plate flower variations

Hi,
1) A while back I posted my plate flower attached to a flat-sided bottle and then the mouth of the bottle stuck on a stem. I noted at that time that there could be another flower on the other side of the bottle.

Here is what I did. Since it is experimental I used dishes that I don't love. I assumed that an equal size flower would be best. I'm not so sure of that now. It seems a bit boring.

I'm concerned about image size, so I'm going to put the next one with a spoon in a comment.

Number 2

2) I used Carmen's idea of flattening a spoon to use on the back, except I bent the spoon so that the metal of the "stem" edge is pushing against spoon, not the space between spoon and plate:

Then here it is on the concuit stem.

What think?
I think I need to bling up number 1. I actually brought it in the house because it is so heavy that I need to shorten my "stem" and pound it into the ground deeper.

I'd love to here how well the plumber's good holds up in hot weather. Mine have heated up and come apart from the weight of the flower. Even the ones in shade. Cleaned all surfaces really well, and made sure it had good contact, so not sure why it hasn't worked for me.

Your flowers look great!

I really like the look of both Kathy! I think the flattened spoon looks neat as a backing...may have to try that next time I make plate flowers! Thanks for sharing with us~

Great idea about bending the spoon, ought to work better. The double one reminds me of a yo-yo, maybe some leaves would help, it's pretty anyway. I love the bottom one, really pretty plates. Good job, TFS

Adina, We had very hot weather here last summer and my pipe fittings that had also been on all winter came off (plumbers goop and ge ii). But the fittings degraded i believe. My friend's flower (which I gave her) was out this past summer but not during the winter and it is still ok, I just checked it last week. I had attached metal washers also with plumbers goop and I can't pry them off. So I was hoping it would work on the stainless steel spoon, presumably better quality metal than the pipe fittings. We'll see. But I may keep this plate in over winter cuz I don't want the gold to go away. But I'll make another glass one to study how the goop works.

Great idea.
That second plate flower is my absolute favorite! Elegant.

I love the spoon attachment! And the plate is pretty too. The first one just does not have that "natural" plate flower look or something...but glad you are experimenting & sharing with the rest of us! Your glasswork GJ (art) is always so pretty! TFS pics! Jeanne S.

I do think that a smaller plate might have looked better on 1st 1 but you never know unless you give it a try. The 2nd 1 is wonderful, I love it & the spoon back!! Did you do some painting on it or were the plates that way as they are lovely? Jan

The plates are as they were made. The center is one of a group of six that toomuchglass/Kathy shared with people here a couple years ago. (Many boxes of them came into her local goodwill)

I like them both, Kathy. Each has it's own style. The spoon idea is great. I was asking my DH about conduit and rebar and how to attach these things, but he didn't have any input on the hows(when I got to the glass flower part he got a very confused look on his face). With the spoon idea and pic, I can visualize these things coming together better. Thanks for sharing!

That's funny, I was thinking the two-sided flower looked like a yo-yo and see that excessfroufrou beat me to mentioning it! It might be fun to create a "yo-yo" using that effect. Interesting concept to try out. I love the second spoon flower. Love the idea of angling the flower using the bent spoon. I hope the plumber's goop works out. Great ideas! TFS!

Kathy, I just want to say how pretty that last plate flower is with the china saucer! I have quite a few odd saucers and now I know what to do with them! More plate flowers for me come spring! :-)

Kathy, I just love the 2nd flower. And why didn't I think of doing that to my spoon!!! LOL Great job!!!
I bought some spoons to make more flwrs but some of those babies were just plain imposible to flatten. go figure.

Thanx for sharing,
Carmen

I was looking for more spoons and I found a flat cake server. Its kind of leaf shaped and already flat! I'll post a pic soon,

For the first flower (back to back), if you set the flowers askew a bit, one higher, one lower, it would look a little more "natural".

Happy crafting!

Yeah, ogre,
you are right about that flower. I think I will take it apart and reuse the bottle on a smaller flower. Or maybe two but offset as you suggest.

RE: More plate flower variations

ok..to sum it up and ask a stupid question....If you use the spoon, do you use plumbers goop or geII? I've got the geII for kitchen and bath..would that be ok?

RE: More plate flower variations

I love these & I've been trying to talk DH into helping me make some. He's a plumber AND a junker - just a different junker than me, that's where the convincing comes into play here. I'll have to show him these & that might convince him to give it a try.
