Lamp glass ideas

Hi everyone. This a picture of a trunk load of old lamp glass that I got at a tailgate sale a couple of weeks ago. I was offered the whole pile for $10. I had to work hard not to scream and shout "I'll take it all".

There are several pieces that will work for totems, but I'm looking for other ideas. One thing I would like to make is a fountain. Does anyone have any other ideas, or instructions for making a fountain.

This is my first time posting a photo so I hope it works!

Thanks,

Karen

It worked but pic is very small!! Anyway I think they are parts of glass lamps so should be able to do a lot of things including totems. Could seal the ends & use 1 as gazing ball. I think there is a fountain forum on here someplace. Anyway looks like good variety of glass to work with!! Good buy too!! Jan

I'm sure some people will give you tips on how to drill holes in glass pieces. I don't have any experience doing it so can't help you there.

You might want to check out some of the solar light projects people here have done with glass shades like you have. I think colored ones like you have would be very cool over solar lights.

The globe type of shades would also make awesome glass totem toppers.

Welcome to a fun and creative group, Karen!

Karen, could you resize the pic and repost. Looks like you got a great deal. Many times when you start putting pieces together, you then decide what you will make. Then you can search for some answers and help. Or ask on the forum. Welcome girl. Looks like you are going to have a bit of fun.

Welcome Karen! OMGosh! I'll bet you did almost scream...I know I would have! They look beautiful, but I would love to see them in a bigger picture. You could make totems, use some as hanging votive holders, and some as "floaters" in a birdbath, etc. Can't wait to see what you decide!!

I love to tuck pieces like that in my planters. Not only do the colors look good in the sun, but at night you can put a tea-light in them and they glow magnificently.
My friends love coming to my deck for a late dinner, because its so pretty, with everything lit by candle light.(and everyone looks good in candle light lol)
I already miss summer sigh.

Welcome Karen, what a great deal! Totems are the first thing that comes to mind, of course I have totem fever. They look like they have openings already, so tea light and solar lights would be easy and lovely. The large ones you could just glue finials on for instant gazing balls.
What ever you do be sure and post pics.

Amazing deal! What fun you will have. Just watch it with tea lights. I decided to put an old glass shade from a porch light on its side and put a tea light inside. Unfortunately I didn't check it out BEFORE I glued lots of sea shells all over it. Then I thought I'd test it and discovered that it gets really HOT on the "top" in a very short amount of time. The old lamps had openings on the top for a reason lol.
Post more pics when you have done stuff, only BIGGER!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I took some close up photo's but haven't been able to get computer time to get them on here. I hope to have time to put some of it together this weekend, so hopefully I will have something to show next week!

WOW, great pieces of glass. I've been trying to get ahold of those kind of pieces. I used a piece of rebar, but a thin copper pipe is stiffer to make a globe totem.

Those are just wonderful!! And the color will be awesome in your garden...can't wait to see what you come up with. They would be pretty just sitting in a wire basket for fall too!

Msmito,

That globe totem is so cool. That is something I can make. Did you put anything in between them to seal them? I would be afraid that water would get in them, especially in the winter. Thanks for the picture!

Here's another close-up. This is some of the bigger pieces.

Now I can see why you were so excited when you saw them for sale! Yowza! They are gorgeous! And I can see why you are thinking fountaing because they already have the holes in them. I wonder if you could create something like msmitoagain's totem by stacking them on a piece of pipe to have the water come out on top. Please keep the pictures coming of whatever you create with them!

I agree with luna llena feliz about piping the water through a tube or pipe from the fountain pump. Add a decorative bowl below filled with marbles or decorative stones to conceal the pump and hold the water. It will look just fabulous. Great find!
