tons of pics for your winter day

Hi everyone!!!

Way back in some post I promised I'd post updated pics of Our Lady Gardyn and today is that day. It was a year ago today that I first began the arduous task of paving my Secret Medieval Mary Shade Garden that we all now know and love as Our Lady Gardyn. For newbies who don't know about it you can search the threads cuz it's late now and I'm getting tired. HA!!! Ok, I'm just being lazy by not finding the links to the story behind Our Lady Gardyn so I'll let anyone interested find them.

So yes, a year has passed since my first paving efforts of the now (not so) infamous Circle Garden in OLG (short for Our Lady Gardyn cuz I'm also too lazy to keep writing that out!! double HA)

Are you ready for some pics now or should I keep blabbering on.....

PIC TIME!!!!!!!

Ahhh, the entrance to OLG back in June when I finally placed the bench chair there

{{gwi:156565}}

Not much has changed except for the growth of the plants on the trellis. Here is the entrance today...

{{gwi:199373}}

Here is Lancelot Lane before there ever was such a thing

{{gwi:199374}}

Todays pic of it

{{gwi:199375}}

This pic shows the beginnings of Guinevere Grove coming off Lancelot Lane. There's also a definite lack of planting.

{{gwi:199377}}

Today it's full of plant life

{{gwi:199379}}

These are the steps that lead to the Circle Garden. Pic taken back in February

{{gwi:131232}}

I love when the plants grow!

{{gwi:199380}}

Circle Garden newly completed in January 2007

{{gwi:129581}}

The Circle Garden one year old today. I think it has that 'lived in' look!

{{gwi:199381}}

I completed the paving of Queens Court back in April.

{{gwi:199382}}

Now I have the medieval style chairs there and the planting behind has grown giving it the secluded feeling I love.

{{gwi:199383}}

This was taken in November 2006

{{gwi:199384}}

Today the weeds are (almost) gone and the beds are planted.

{{gwi:199387}}

View looking toward the Circle Garden

{{gwi:199389}}

Now there's a path called Guinevere Grove. It's also where I actually worked today. I started 'grouting' the bricks and cemented the terracotta edgers in place.

{{gwi:199390}}

This is the last bit of fun left for me to do in Our Lady Gardyn. I'll make Merlin's Way, put in another patio area, create The Lady of the Lake vignette AND... you see those big white blocks of styrofoam? I'm going to make a mosaiced exedra with them. My gf here gave me a book about medieval gardyns and exedras where very popular seating areas during the 15th/16th centuries. They're 'U' shaped seats, enough for 6 people. I'll modify the design of the seat a bit since exedras usually had turfed seats and with very inconsistent rainfall I do not want to have to water my exedra all the time. And don't expect that to happen any time too soon, though. It's still in the planning stage and I've become a real slowpoke when it comes to executing ideas. But it will happen!

{{gwi:148484}}

I hope I didn't bore you with this long post and that the pics made up for all my tawk!!

Enjoy!

Cait

    YOU SAY: "And don't expect that to happen any time too soon, though. It's still in the planning stage and I've become a real slowpoke when it comes to executing ideas."

    I SAY: I don't believe you!! That is an awesome makeover and a ton of work you've accomplished in a year!!! Thanks for posting those great pictures - your garden is lovely!

    WOW!!!! Cait! as they say stateside "you da WOMAN!" Your garden is absolutely gorgeous! You have created you own bit of paradise. I also appreciate the peek into summer you give us. December here in Ohio, USA is very grey, chilly damp and dreary today. At least I still have the Christmas decorations to brighten things for a few more days. After that I'll be counting on you!

    Keep up the good work and keep on posting as many pictures as you like. I love them!!!!!

    Absolutely gorgeous Cait. It's so very lovely and inviting. I would just love to stroll down the named walkways to see all those wonderful plants and surprises around every corner. As said above "You Da Woman!!" Congratulations on transforming the Our Lady Gardyn into one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen.

    It's all just beautiful Cait! I really appreciate seeing it today, because it's snowing like crazy right now. I almost fell on my rear twice! How much property do you have there? It looks like you have alot. I don't know what you do for a living, but it looks like you could be a landscape architect! It's just stunning, and so magical. You must feel like you've been transported into another place and time when you walk your garden!!

    Cait, Your spectacular summer garden walk-through was a much needed lift today. Here in Kentucky it is gloomy , gray and drizzly. My son and granddaughter just left after their Christmas visit with us. And Winter is getting ready to set in. Thank you so much for carrying me to never-land. I wish I had just a fraction of all the energy and inspiration you used in your transformation of your beautiful garden.Jlily

    I'm so glad (does anyone use that word anymore?? hehe) you all have enjoyed the 'visit'!
    luvs2 - today hit 100 and we're expecting more of the same for the next week - well, maybe low 90s - so I'll have to wait for cooler weather before I do anything out there! I am hoping to start in the next few weeks, though.

    countrygrl - we have just shy of half an acre. Our Lady Gardyn is just a tiny corner tucked in the back of the property. I used to know how big it was... back when I was plotting it out. Something like 55x40 feet?? Don't quote me. HA Now I'll be out there measuring it!!

    To those whose dreary winter's days were brightened... THANKS!! All your colorful gardens brighten my winter's days so I'm happy to return the 'favor'.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
    (is it just me or do others out there sometimes feel like closing your post with 'Love....'?? LOL)

    wow... THANKS some more!! ;-)

    It's been so hot these past few days I only go out in the morn and dusk to water my pots and veggie beds.

    Sharon - there will be 4 seating areas in Our Lady Gardyn: the bed bench at the entrance is the first, Arthur Circle should sit 3 or 4 unless people don't want to sit on the wall, Queens Court seats 2 in the 'thrones', and the exedra (one day I'll figure a name for it but that'll be when I decide what the mosaic theme is) is supposed to seat 6 people.
    In the rest of the garden I have benches and chairs scattered all around.

    Susie - When it's 100 out there winter doesn't sound so bad HAHA!!
    I've always wanted to visit Texas. I was once offered a job there, in El Paso.
    And yes, I'm from NYC. Always extreme weather there. Cold cold winters and brutally hot summers. I remember sometimes walking down the steps into the subway station and it feeling like a steam bath! Everyone would be looking at each other, shaking there heads, rolling their eyes in a kind of joined commiseration for the horrors we were about to enter. Like descending into hell it was. Sometimes so bad you could barley breath from the mugginess. YIKES! Those were the days!

    Hope everyone enjoyed their New Year. I watched the ball come down in NY and felt like I was home!

    fluttering about!
    Yes, Being away from home... Getting settled into a new Home
    is difficult...
    I guess that old saying " Bloom Where You Are Planted" is
    working out for you.... Just wish I could say the same for me... But my New Years resolution.......was........
    NOT TO COMPLAIN, or I would have to put a $1.00 dollar in the can!!!
    So A Non Squawking SusieSunshine !!!
    I will be trying to BLOOM IN ILLINOIS !!!!
    Happy New Year to you Cait...... Keep Up The Wonderful Work!
    Keep those pictures rolling in for us !
    we appreciate them! and your wonderful IDEAS!
    God Bless !
