Lawn too short, Moss attacking, what to do??

Late hubby mowed grass too short for too long and damp weather has favored a very lush growth of lawn moss in my field and backyard. There are several mature broadleaf trees shading part of the area which is roughly 1/2 acre. With several more pressing projects I am unable to get the trees thinned or pruned at this time. In addition to mowing at about 3 plus inches - twice the current thickness of the moss, what steps can I take to encourage the moss to GO AWAY? Would lime help?
