Roller bar for Mclane reel mower?

My yard is very bumpy. I bought a used Mclane reel mower last week and I would like to start cutting low this spring. I do plan to level but I am going to wait until the summer for that project. My question is will a roller bar from reelmowerroller.com help with the scalping? If so, how big of a difference can you tell after you add the roller? Thanks.

Hard to say.

If there are places in your lawn that the front casters can fall in to, then yes, a roller will help.

But if a bump in the lawn can protrude in between the roller and bedknife and is taller than your height of cut, then it will still scalp.

Only way to tell is to just do it to it and see what happens! Good luck!

I think jonmhenderson has direct experience with a Mclane with and without a roller.

Not sure how private messaging works on this site or if there is any, but you might try to get a hold of him.
