Bermuda suggestions

Ok so i just scalped my lawn bc we will not have another day of below freezing where i live. My lawn is very bumpy and with my new mclane reel mower the lowest i could go without cutting too much in the dirt was 3/4 inch. After I scalped, it just left the stems obviously and the yard was very hard and brittle from the stems. I want to train it to grow low and ideally i would like to keep it maintained at 3/4 inch. My question is do i need to scalp it lower if i want to maintain at 3/4 when it starts to green up? Also how long will it take to train it to grow low and get that carpet feel to it? I know i need to level but i am having a hard time deciding if i should level early around april or purchase a roller bar for my mower that will get me by for a while then level in mid summer? Any suggestions? Im open to anything but I really want to maintain at least 3/4 inch for most of the year and maybe bump it up to 1" at the end of summer. Thanks.

Wait for it to green up, and fertilize it. Let it get growing good, then level by topdressing low spots.

Thanks but would about my cutting height question? I cant scalp below what i already have at 3/4". Do i continue to cut at 3/4" even though it will scalp some until i level?

I would raise it.

The grass would be fine.

The reel mower would not. Hitting dirt is going to severely shorten the life of your reel and bedknife.

Keep it at 3/4 for now. You will raise the ground up when you level, and everything will balance out.

It is scalped at 3/4 right now. If i keep it at 3/4 wouldnt i just keep cutting the green off everytime i mow and leaving nothing but the brown stems?

RE: Bermuda suggestions

When you say scalped what do you mean? Are the blades cutting into the ground? Or just removing the green leaf material?

If just removing the leaf material, then the grass will adapt to the new cutting height by laying down and growing horizontally close to the ground.

There is no green leaf material everything is dormant. I just scalped to get ready for the spring. At 3/4 it did not cut into the ground but if i drop it down any lower it will. I was told that you should scalp it as low as you could go without hitting dirt before green up. I was also told you should scalp it one notch below what you want to maintain it as. Right now all that is left are hard stems 3/4" long. Are you saying if i keep cutting it at 3/4" those stems will lay down horizontally?
