First mowing

Wondering when is a good time to do your first mowing. Should you go short? I've been noticing some new growth.

Lawn is mostly a bluegrass/fescue blend.

RE: First mowing

Mow it when it is 1 and 1/3 the height that you want it to be after it's cut. So if you want the lawn to be 3 inches after it is mowed, wait till it is 4 inches. If you like it a bit shorter, say 2.5 inches, wait till it's almost 3.5 inches. Try to remove only 1/3 of the total blade height whenever you mow. It is OK for your first mow to be a bit on the shorter side in the spring to clean up the blades a bit, but cutting below the minimum mowing height for any grass isn't recommended.
