Crabgrass maintenance

So I have made piece with my crabgrass lawn, not going away and the lawn is now 95% crabgrass. So for years the Gardner cut it with a rotary mower and it was way to thick, with the sometimes curious circular crop marking every now and then.

So....I bought a used King-o-Lawn front throw mower and wow now I have a flat, tight, low front lawn that's looking more like a golf course green and than lawn, and is the envy of the neighborhood!!

But here's the thing...the lawn mower is on the highest setting and I am still a good 1+" higher than sidewalks and walkways.

Can I de-thatch, then cut real short like 1/2", then fertilize and have it come back??? Kind of what it to be the same height as sidwalk.

Kinda afraid to screw up what I have, but still want to reduce the height and thickness and promote new healthy growth.

Best of all this, two 5 minutes watering a week keeps it looking great!

Any thoughts advice???

Scott
