Go to arkansas valley seed. They have blends that do great. I use the bluegrass mix in the lawn areas and the low 2 gro in the non irrigated area's. Have had great experience with this. BlueCarpet Blend Formulation 25% Odyssey Kentucky Bluegrass (Midnight Type) 25% Alpine or MoonShadow Kentucky Bluegrass (Compact Type) 20% Arcadia Kentucky Bluegrass (Midnight Type) 20% America or SR2284 Kentucky Bluegrass (America Type) 10% Cheetah or Avalanche Kentucky Bluegrass (Aggressive Type) Low 2 gro blend 30% Ephraim Crested Wheatgrass 25% Sheep Fescue 20% Perennial Rye 15% Chewings Fescue 10% Kentucky Bluegrass |

| bigl, how is it with water use for this bluecarpet mixture once it is established? i am also considering reveille, mixture of kentucky and texas, supposedly more drought resistant, little on expensive side though. |

| The bluecarpet mix is all KBG, so it will require about an inch a week. The low water mixes that were described in your question and bigl's response will probably require half that (maybe less). At low watering rates, I would not expect much of the KBG in the second mix to last very long. |

OP, Water req's are typical for the bluecarpet mix. I tend to keep watering on the lean side for those sections. If you are looking for a low water/no water type you can look at Arkansas Valley's ephraim crested wheat(pure 95%) mix. I have used that before in a low water lawn type setting and I liked the results. Also if you are looking at this approach, check out BPGREEN's posts. His are the best regarding wheatgrasses. Peace |

| Ephraim is one of the varieties of crested wheatgrass that spreads via rhizomes. I think it is also one that was bred with the intention of using it as a turf grass. Until relatively recently, crested wheatgrass was viewed as a forage type grass, so most of the interest in breeding was in terms of increasing forage value, not improving the looks of a lawn. But I think Ephraim was developed with an eye toward making it a lawn grass. |
