Weed killer for st augustine/ bermuda lawn

Moved into our house last summer and the previous owner had killed the lawn. I now have it filled in pretty well with a mix of bermuda and st augustine and lots of weeds. I tried weed b gone for southern lawns in a test patch and it killed the Bermuda. Any suggestions on what to use?

Bermuda and Saint Augustine are not compatible. Herbicides for Bermuda will harm or kill Saint Augustine, and as you discovered already herbicides for Saint Augustine will harm Bermuda. They both also have completely different maintenance routines.

Take your pick one or the other.

Depending on your shade situation, Bermuda as a rule does not do well in shady areas. Many people considered common Bermuda to be a weed.

Mowing: If you mow it at your mower's highest setting it will look like a St Augustine lawn with a little bermuda in it. If you mow at the lowest setting it will look like a weedy mess and eventually the St Augustine will die off leaving bermuda.

Fertilizing: Bermuda needs to be fertilized monthly to be dense and robust. If you use chemical fertilizers in the summer it will likely kill off the St Augustine.

Watering: Both need the same amount of water to look nice. If you stop watering, the bermuda will go dormant and the St Augustine will die.
