Moss in / around lawn

I have a very small area between the woods behind my house and my lawn that is about 70% covered in moss. I don't mind it there...it looks nice and keeps the weeds at bay. But...

I've noticed moss in other areas of my lawn (proper) that I don't necessarily want there. What's the best way to eradicate it? Can I just "pull it" or do I need to "kill it". And, is there any harm (like it will cause moss growth throughout your lawn as long as it's there) in having the moss at the back of my lot that connects to the woods?

Thanks.

RE: Moss in / around lawn

Moss is easily killed with a product called Moss Out. It is an iron solution that you spray on the mossy areas of your lawn. It is completely safe, and will not harm your grass. Moss favors moist soils, with low pH, and thrives in shady areas. It can be a sign that your soil needs liming (a good soil test will show you this). Moss shouldn't encroach on a healthy thick lawn from those areas you want to keep mossy, but if the grass is thin, and the areas are shady and moist, it will slowly respread.
