| Hello
I am in the process of landscaping my garden. I need new soil for my lawn approximate 50mm thick for an area of 20 meter by 20 meters. Approximately 20m3. Which soil should I use (details so I know what to ask for) and goes anyone know a supplier that gives good price? Thanks

| Before acknowledging you need new soil, what is wrong with the soil you have now? There are very few soils that will not respond quickly to organic fertilizer and mulch. Have you done a jar test (Google it) or a soil test (Logan Labs)? Adding soil to a garden which has already been profiled can change your drainage in unplanned ways. It would be a shame to bring in more soil and find you have inches of water in your basement after the next storm. |

| The garden level has been raised. There was construction work so a lot of soil was contaminated. this has now been removed and 10mm screen soil was laid first. I now need the correct soil for grass. dave |

| Okay great. We remodeled a few years ago and had to bring in a lot of sand to fill the low spots left up against the house. What contaminated the soil? See, here's the thing...soil can be remediated by feeding the bacteria and fungi that live there. Any soil! There is almost nothing that cannot be solved. One serious problem would be dropping a box of 20-Mule Team Borax on the soil. That soil would likely have to be launched into the Sun for remediation. Other than that, almost everything else is minor. The organic fertilizer and mulch idea works much faster than anything else. Bringing in more soil will change your drainage and will do nothing to remediate the soil underneath - the soil where the roots will eventually go. |
