What type of grass is this?

I was hoping to have nice rye grass for this winter but instead I got this ugly looking grass that grows extremely fast. I'm hoping to get rid of it so that I can get the Bermuda going for the spring/summer but don't know where to start.

Sorry for the bad quality my camera settings were messed up but if better quality pics are needed please let me know.

Well you will not like my answers or comments.

It is Rye Grass, very cheap low quality Rye Grass.

With that said it does not make one bit of difference what kind of grass it is as the treatment is the exact same for any of them.

So what can you do?

Not much except learn your lesson. Do not over seed Bermuda in the Fall, and enjoy Fall and Winter without much yard work.

For now if the last frost date has passed or in the very near future, scalp the yard as low as your mower will go, and rake up the debris.

Once the Bermuda has greened up about 50 to 75%, start your yearly fertilizer applications.

As the weather heats up and the Bermuda starts growing will kill off the Rye Grass or whatever grass it is.

So no worries, relax, and the problem will take care of itself providing you follow proper maintenance routine.

I think TW meant, "...start your monthly fertilizer applications."

Look for the Bermuda Bible online and memorize it.

And the landscape guy said it was high quality rye grass.

We are already in the mid 80s in my area so looks like it's time tp scalp for Bermuda.
