I purchased a house 4 weeks ago, I am in Michigan, so its been a harsh winter, but the snow is all gone now. 10 day forecast is high of 40-60, around 30-40 degrees at night.

Im not sure what kind of grass I even have... my guess is the generic bluegrass, fescue, rye mix thats typical up here. Id like to take out the evergreens in the backyard, and generally fill in the bare spots, improve the whole thing.

So... what do I do? I want to seed even though it is spring... but I expect there will be weeds I should be addressing, yet weed preventer and seed seem to be opposing products. What should I do?
