Hi, they're probably worm castings, a polite word for worm poop. Rejoice, I think worm castings are the best "compost" there is. It's expensive stuff too. The worm's don't work for free :-) I see a lot of it in my lawn and garden too. Makes me happy.

You do not need help. All Lawn Snobs and gardeners would love to have your problem. It is earthworm piles or the best fertilizer you can get. You will see them appear every time you have a good rain. Count your blessings.

Actually those guys are wrong. You need to bag up all those piles and send them to me so I can properly dispose of them for you. ;-)

wow. i thought i had a new problem. this is a refreshing turn of events. thanks for your responses. i still have a concern. previously, i had a thick lawn. grass in every millimeter. now with all these piles all over the place, it looks like half the grass is gone. there is grass, then mud circle, etc. when it rained, or i walked around my yard, those circles get pressed down. will grass come up through these bare spots now, or could weeds grow up?

Well now that you mention it and you made me look more closely at the photo, what kind of grass do you have? It looks like one that should be mowed at the highest setting on your mower, not the lowest.

I love those worms. I don't know what type of grass you have but if it grows tall, cut it high and you won't even see those worm homes. Fertilize in May and if by fall you have too many weeds and not enough grass, you can kill the weeds then and overseed.
