Repair Spring Dead Spot in Zoysia

I am new to lawn care, but from doing a little research I believe I have Spring Dead Spot. Most information say it typically occurs in Bermuda, but also can in Meyers Zoysia (what I have). I live in Southeast US.

I pulled up some of the grass and it is darkened / black at the bottom, so it sounds like SDS. The rest of the grass just greened up from winter in the past two weeks, but this area did not.

Now I am looking for advice on the best way to repair and help prevent this. This is my first year here so I am not sure if this is a reoccurring area each spring, or the first year.

One lawn book I have says to re sod and apply fungicide in September, and not fertilize too late in season. Is this the best action? Can I resod now at the beginning of growing season? It also sounds like this is often a reoccurring issue in the same spot for several years - does this mean I will have to resod every year until the problem eventually goes away, or is there more I can do to help prevent it?
