| I recently moved from up north to georgia. The best I can tell I have Bermuda common and hybrid. I also believe there maybe some centipede there also. This is a new house / Sodded front yard and seeded back yard. We also have a full irrigation system. I currently mow with a rotary Lawn boy lawn mower. Last year I was cutting the grass like most all the neighbors at 3-3.5 settings. I did try for awile to cut around 1.5-2 but all I would get is brown grass. Maybe I did not do it for long enough. It is currently April 1st and yesterday I cut it at 2.0. The grass is brown in some spots. Should it be ok to try to train the grass to a height of 1.5 at this time of year? I also made the mistake of putting Scotts Bonus S on bermuda grass a couple weeks ago. It survived it OK. Wont do that again. It seems most every person cuts the lawn very long compared to what is recomended for bermuda. The lawns all seem to look full and green at that height. If I start to cut it back to around a 1.5 what will I expect, alot of brown before it comes around? Also the Bermuda grass will hold up to the brutal heat of middle GA in the summer months at such a short cut? I have been irrigating twice a week 20 minutes per section. Not sure how much in inches this is but I am going to test that in the coming days. I also intend to fertilize about every 6 weeks. |

| Here is a picture from years ago on this forum. It is 419 bermuda mowed at 5/8 inch.
What happens when you mow it short is the grass takes on a horizontal growth habit instead of the vertical one that most grasses have. The grass in the photo is far too dense to even see what is going on but the stems you see when you mow now will start to grow horizontally. Mowing at 1 inch it will still be mostly vertical, but you will start getting multiple blades of grass on the stems. Set your mower to the lowest setting and keep it there. Find the Bermuda Bible on the Internet and memorize it. |

| You will need to scalp the lawn now and then start mowing at 1.5 Yes it will look dead for a week or so but will start to green after that. It will handle the heat fine. 1.5 inches is not very low for Bermuda. |
