Cover bare spots and overseeding?

First time poster here, take it easy on me ;).

Last summer beat up my lawn pretty good in some areas and I was unable to overseed in the fall. I have scheduled aerating and overseeding here in 3 weeks.

However, I am wondering if it were ok if I were to start to fill in these bare spots before they came to do the lawn. It is supposed to rain over the next few days so I thought it may be a good idea.

Would laying down seed now and in 3 weeks when they overseed the entire lawn be a waste?

Should I just wait?

It would help if you posted where you live and what type of grass you want to seed. If it's a cool season grass, I would urge you to wait till late summer/early fall to seed. If you have to overseed this spring, it would be better to do it all at once.

I am in Omaha, Nebraska. I would be reseeding with Scott's sun and shade, a mix of fescue, ryegrass, and bluegrass.

I could just cover the bare spots and do a full reared in the fall, but I'd like to knock it out all right now.
