we resodded last year, went with bahia, works well in Florida, not the water hog like St Augustine. Anyway, I have noticed this weed, seems to be spreading like wildfire. Does not matter if it is a high traffic area or not. The runners can get quite long, most of the runners are purplish in color. I have scoured the web and this site. Does anyone know what it it? Thanks in advance

cant remember what its called, I have it too. Its easy to get rid of, 2,4-d applied once will cure it. It will take about 2 weeks for it to die.

Did anyone ever determine what exactly the name of this nuisance weed is called? It is wreaking havoc all over my yard, but not for long if I have my way.

Might be this: Florida Betony or Rattlesnake Weed: Stachys floridana.
I found weeds using a browser search via Bing, with the search words -- florida weeds.

Well guys, I HATE This weed! A local Central Florida authority and horticulturist Mr. Tom McCubbin has emailed me and told me this nuisance is called MATCHWEED. I thought it was initially the Virginia Buttonweed. 2,4- D does have an effect on it Tom says, but repeat applications may be necessary. The TAP roots ever so often on this crap are brutal.
