Can I still overseed this time of year in Kentucky?

Last year we had a drought and johnson grass completely took over my front yard due to me not taking care of things. I tried and tried to get it all by hand but ended up having to hit it with roundup. It worked but I ended up with extremely large bare patches that kicked up dust when I mowed.

I seeded in the fall with The Rebels tall fescue and had good germination rates. Unfortunately working the soil must have turned up a lot of chickweed seeds and now my yard is covered with it and in places it is the main thing growing although not nearly as bad as the Johnson grass crisis.

I bought some weed and feed but I am worried that if I apply it then I willl end up with bare spots again. I know that the fall is the best but I am about out of options I suppose. If I overseed now and water regulary, will at least some of it survive the summer heat?

I am also open to any suggestions.

Thanks everyone
