Help identify this grass

I reseeded a portion of my lawn last year and need help identifying this grass. The seed mix was suppose to be mostly fescue - this is not fescue. Is there anything I can use to eliminate it? Thanks

Mostly fescue? Do you still have the bag that it came in? The specific varieties of grass seed will be listed in the Guaranteed Analysis portion of the label.

Seed is sold by weight. Fescue seeds happen to be big heavy things compared to some weed seeds. If your seed was moderately contaminated with bentgrass, for example, you could end up with a bentgrass lawn in one season. I don't think that is bentgrass.

Did the grass stay green all winter? If so then it is mostly fescue. It might not be the variety of fescue you're thinking of but it was fescue. If the grass turned brown in the winter, then it was Kentucky bluegrass. At this time of year the biggest difference would be that KBG is spreading and fescue does not spread...at least not like KBG.

Look here for a better description of fescue.

Did you cover the seed with straw?
