 o
Crabgrass/spotted spurge in my bermuda: control it next year?

Hi, folks. My backyard is Tifway 419 and crabgrass and spotted spurge have been growing for several weeks. I am worried that I could lose some of my grass if I let it get out of control. The problem is, of course, my grass is now actively growing, so applying post-emergents is pretty much an impossibility, right? I'm thinking that the best plan of attack is to mow frequently (1.5" is the lowest I can go at the moment), keep the bermudagrass fed and strong, and begin a proper pre-emergent schedule next winter, as stated in the Bermuda Bible.

What do you guys think?

Why couldn't you use a post emergent? New sod?

If not new sod, you can use weed b gone so long as it is below 85 degrees. Even heard about another post emergent available at Lesco called Celcius that can be used during hot weather.

You should consider starting a pre emergent program.

The sod was laid last year in September when I bought my house, but honestly I don't know if that means it's safe to use post-emergents or not. For awhile I was actually hand-pulling the crabgrass and spurge but there is now simply too much of it for me to handle.

Daytime temperatures here in Round Rock have been in the 80s off and on for awhile now.

I'll be starting a pre-emergent program in August/September for poa annua, so if I can just make it until then...

Celsius?

Heya, I found a press release from Bayer about Celsius:

http://www.landscapemanagement.net/athletic-turf/herbicides/bayer-intr oduces-celsius-herbicide

Is this stuff for real? It seems almost too good to be true. I thought that the reason crabgrass was traditionally difficult to eliminate was because it was a "true" grass, and thus was difficult to selectively control.

Has anyone used this Celsius stuff on bermudagrass?

Another thread about Celsius

I dug this up on Google just now, for those who are interested:

You could probably just use weed b gone that contains the crabgrass killer. Sorry, can't remember the real name. That's what happens when you use pre emergents. LOL! Just giving you a hard time.

Always read the label before usage.

I need it this year because DH spread the pre-emergent and just skipped huge areas of the lawn--and also, I'm reclaiming the lawn after letting him have his way with it for years.
