Lots of Lawn problems!

Hi, I'm new here. What's brought me here is an array of problems in both my front and back yard.

Frontyard - I believe we have Bermuda. Weed & Feed applied in Fall 2012. Winter temperatures sent grass into dormancy. Spring time now, neighbors lawns almost entirely green while mine is patchy green, and mostly dead/dormant looking. Going to apply water right now to see if maybe it just needs more water. Some weeds in the front, though not too bad. Biggest problem were these big thick clumps of grass; manually pulled those out.

Backyard - Very weedy, especially a clover looking weed. Weed & Feed killed off the other weeds, and did nothing to the clover weed. It's taken over the back portion of the yard. Near the front portion there is a spot that receive minimal sunlight a day and appears to be turning mossy. Near the a/c unit there is a spot that receive NO sunlight and is entirely mossy.

Sorry for the length of this post but I'm having lots of problems and just need a place to start. I feel overwhelmed and am on the brink of calling in a professional though it's not in my budget. With regards to the mossy patch, I am thinking of somehow removing the moss (tips appreciated) and making a flower bed there or planting hastas as I've been told they do well in shade.

Pictures are usually helpful.

Lawn care is easy. You have to water, mow, and fertilize. That's not that overwhelming once you don't know the timing, frequency, and amounts. We can help.

Forget about weed & feed. If you need fertilizer, use fertilizer. If you need to kill weeds, spot spray with a liquid designed specifically for the weeds you are trying to kill. Bermuda is very hardy and will come back if you accidentally spray a grassy weed with a grassy weed killer and get some on the bermuda. Clover requires a product from Weed B Gone that has Clover in big, black letters in the name. If you see clover only in the long list of plants it kills, keep looking until you find the right one.

Google the words, "bermuda bible." If you come back to GardenWeb, look elsewhere. It is posted on a website which cannot be mentioned here. Memorize the Bermuda Bible. Basically it says to mow short 2x per week and mulch the clippings. Water infrequently but deeply. Fertilizer with a high N fertilizer every month of the growing season. Easy stuff.

If you have any shade, bermuda will thin out and die away. Plant flowers there.

Try to relax in the spring. If the neighbor's lawns become green before yours, then you are simply not having to mow as much. But if you start following the bible, yours will leap ahead of theirs (unless they have the bible, too).
