Be patient you have some time to wait yet until late Spring early Summer when it gets good and warm when day time highs are in the 90's and nights in the 60's. It will take two growing seasons to get good coverage.

Auteck is absolutely right about the winter-damage. I service the Atlanta area and even this far south, we have to contend with winter-damage. Centipede is a stoloniferous grass type, meaning simply that it grows stolons along the surface, rather than rhizomes below the surface. Every time you get a harsh winter, these stolons are exposed to the freeze and usually get zapped. The Zoysia recommendation works because the rhizomes are below the surface and thereby protected from a hard freeze. A cool-season grass is still the ideal choice for your area.

I disagree. I have two friends who have centipede lawns and they are great. Low maintenance and doing much better than
comparable bluegrass fescue. Those of you who are down on centipede for Zone 7 may be using outdated climate info.

One of the reasons I like Centipede is that it is low maintenance and needs to be mowed only about half as often as cold weather grasses. I do have a stand of Centipede in a section of the yard already and it has done fine over the last 8 years.
