Dimension did not work

Tall Fescue
Maryland

Early last Fall, I killed off all the weeds and unwanted grasses in my lawn. I seeded with a good fescue from the local sod farm. The end result was great. I have a lot of knowledge about taking care of fescue so I thought I had done a great job. This year, I put down Dimension 0-0-7 .21% at the highest rating on March 1st with plans to do it again mid April. I noticed some crabgrass popping up here and there over the last two weeks which I spot sprayed. It has exploded this week. It's everywhere. What happened? We did not have any heavy rain to wash away the Dimension and I have not disturbed the surface of the soil.

Did you water the dimension in after applying? You have to water pre emerge at least half an inch before it becomes effective.

Did the pre emergent get watered in via irrigation or rainfall?

You beat me! LOL!

It was watered in by rain. We had one inch of rain over a day or two, right after I applied it. Only the backyard is affected by the crabgrass. It worked great in the front yard.

So lets think about this. It worked in front, but not in the back. Then we can assume that the Dimension was not at fault here.

Anything at all that you can think of about the back yard that would make it different?

Could the soil be warmer for one reason or another? This might make your timing off. Does it slope at all? Shadier or sunnier than the front?

Something was different about the back yard.

Positive its crabgrass? Pictures of the offender?

RE: Dimension did not work

The front is new sod, early 2011. The back was lightly renovated fall 2011, killed off unwanted grasses and weeds then seeded/overseeded. No slope. Front gets 100% sun and the back gets 80% sun.

I should have killed the whole back yard and put down sod. Easiest way to do things if you ask me.

There is your problem.
