Walk or not weed on a new lawn?

I decided to scrape my lawn and start over with native grass, specifically Thunder Turf. Honestly I don't know what I'm doing, but for the most part Google has been a good guide. I'm 2 weeks into the watering twice-a-day phase, and I've got a concern that I can't find a search phrase to match.

When the seeds started growing I noticed this broad leaf sprout amongst the patches. They definitely only grow with the grass seeds, and seem to exist over the whole lawn -- about 400 sq ft in back, and 2600 sq ft in front. My first question is are they weeds? My second question is whether it's better to wait until the lawn is more established before I go traipsing across it to do weeding, or should I wait awhile?

Nothing you planted should look like that so it is a week. This is why we always suggest seeding new grass in the fall when the summer weeds are not sprouting. But you're beyond that now. When you scraped the surface off, you exposed the seed. That's okay. You'll survive.

If you rolled your seed down, then I'd feel better about you walking on it. I am thinking you did not so you should probably stay off it until it is about 5 inches high. Then mow it down to 4 inches (your mower's highest setting). By that time the grass should be sturdy enough that you won't hurt the roots. By that time the weed will be so prevalent that you'll throw up your hands and punt. At that time you might want to invest in some Weed-B-Gone spray for a hose end sprayer. When you spray, all you are trying to do is mist the leaves of the weeds. Saturating the soil is a waste of product and harms the biology of the soil.

When you scraped, you didn't rototill did you? How did you scrape it?

I wish starting in the fall had been an option, or that I could have waited until this fall to start. My wife is due with our first child on May 19th, and we've been nesting with home remodels and lawn work to prepare.

The guy I hired to scrape the lawn removed all the vegetation and had it down to dry dirt before he spread 2 inches of new dirt on top. He mowed it on the lowest setting, removed the vegetation with a hard rake, sprayed it with a herbicide, then he laid on the Thunder Dirt. I didn't think to ask what he was using.

I'll pull everything within arms reach from the sidewalk/edges, then do my best to kill it once the grass is established.

Thanks for the advice!
