Is a drip system necessary?

I am building a house in Springville Utah and having the builder install a sprinkler system. They can add a drip system for around $600. I wanted to know if these are necessary, worth the price, or something I could and should install later? I wasn't sure if just my normal sprinklers will suffice? I am not over the top or high maintenance. Any thoughts?

Since this is the lawn forum, are you talking about putting it into the lawn? Don't think I've heard of that.
