This year, we have the worst flea problem I've ever seen in over 30 years. Fleas are *everywhere*. I'm thinking of buying some beneficial nematodes to help control the problem. However, the instructions say that the soil temperature shouldn't get above 90 degrees for this to work. What's the relation between the soil temperature and the air temperature? Would it be stupid to buy beneficial nematodes this late in the spring? Thanks for any info.

Not at all. If you have any shade at all on the ground, the soil will not heat above the daytime average temp. If you have bare soil in full sun, it might get up to the 90s in the south. If you have grass, the soil will never get that warm. We use beneficial nematodes in July in San Antonio so I'd go for it. One thing they are not clear about is soil moisture. I always suggest to use BN on the 3rd day of a 4-day rain storm. The soil should be moist when they go on and you should water them in. BN move on a film of moisture. If the soil is dry or drying out, it needs to be wetter.

Thanks so much, dchall_san_antonio. There is definitely shade (we have some very large oak trees). We also have grass. A 4-day rainstorm? Well, we haven't had one of those in about 7 years. LOL. I can control the moisture with a hose, though. I think I'll order some nematodes tonight! :)
