Need help identifing what type of grass I have

I'm just became a home owner in Southern IL & I'm new to this lawn care thing. I need some help identifying what type of grass I have so I can buy the correct seeds to fill in a few bare spots I have & I want to see if I can get a few tips on getting my lawn nice, green & thick. When I started trying to get the yard together my problem was clovers but I spent an entire day out there digging them up from the root to get rid of them. I hope that keeps them away. After I was finished digging those huge bunches of clovers up a guy at the hardware store told me to use weed & feed. I used that (Scotts brand I believe)& that killed the small patches & most of the other small weed I had in the yard. I have been cutting the grass to 3" and looks nice & green until after I cut it then it starts looking kind of brown. I dont know if its from the dead grass laying on top of the soil (side discharge mower) or or just the way the grass is. I want it to look thick & green after I cut it. Any tips?

Here are a few pics of the grass to help ID it

Mostly tall fescue, but there is what looks like a few blades of KBG or PR in there.

A few observations:

1. Good pictures. Always helpful for folks here to provide an accurate response. You did good.

2. Overall, your turf looks good.

3. Looks to me like you need to have your mower blade sharpened. The up close pics of grass blades shows that the blades are getting shredded at the tips of the blades. This can lead to other problems such as fungal development or additional insect activity. Do you use a walk behind mower or riding mower?

4. The siding needs to be repaired on that building. Lol.

5. Keep checking back in to this site for good advice from the other folks who willingly share their knowledge.

Thanks for the replies. @ Tiemco so Tall fescue is the type of seeds I need to buy for that bare spots? Sorry is that's a dumb question LOL! Here is the bare spot in the front. Below are a few pictures of the rear.

@ Newrandwest I noticed the tearing when I was reviewing the pics. I have a push mower & that it a brand new blade on it. Do you have to sharpen new blades?

I just thought about it. I used a pellet type of weed & feed shortly before the guy at the store told me to try the liquid kind. I only treated the front half of the yard with that & I treated the whole yard with the liquid. I dont know if that was too much for the grass but I believe the pellets are the reason the front looks pretty green & half decent. I didn't use the pellets in the back because money was getting low plus the back was in really bad condition & needed a lot of work. The yard has a little incline up to the canter then it goes back down & that kinda hide the rough parts from the front.

Here is the main problem spot in the front yard.

Dead? Under the side extension for the kitchen

Back yard. You can see the weed killer are keeping those little white flower things in the other yard

Is if my yard wasn't jacked up enough... Thanks Direct TV guy!

If I could get my entire yard to look like this part in the front I would be very happy :-)
