| I have an area on our rural property where we recently removed a small "hill" of sand that we kept on-hand for a couple years as an ingredient for mortar (for stone-masonry work). The area - though now bare of greenery - has been cleaned up so that it's again flat and continuous with the ground around it. Since the surrounding ground has a growth of mixed grasses that we normally keep trimmed, I've seeded the bare area (about 100 sq ft) with a mixed-grass lawn seed.
Before seeding, I scratched the area with a rake to roughen the soil surface. Then I seeded it pretty heavily. Now (about six days later), I've been making sure I water the area daily. Another area not far away was a similar case. I seeded it about four or five days earlier, and it is greening up nicely. However, this area had a few days after seeding when we were getting rain rather than the more recent clear cold nights. In the last five days, we've had a few nights with temps going slightly beow freezing. The seed in the area seeded six days ago has not yet produced green sprouts. I don't know how much influence our light frosts may have had. But I'm wondering how dangerous to the germination and seedling survival process frosts may be? |

| Cool season grasses usually survive frost just fine. The cool temps will certainly slow down germination though. |
