When I first put in my back yard lawn I had stripes like yours. I was using a drop style spreader rather than a broadcast style. I am pretty darn positive your stripes are from the fertilizer. When I switched to a broadcast style spreader my stripes went away.

I would probably just wait a few more weeks and do the whole lawn again. If I remember right the Scott bags say to fertilize every 6-8 weeks. I would be afraid that if you did just the yellow ish areas you would get even more stripes.

The other thing you could try is half the speed that the fertilizer is sent out and spread it north/south then again east west. This out to help evenly distribute the fertilizer.

Let me guess, you used a drop spreader??? Looks to me like you somehow over applied on the light strips and burned the grass. If you concur with that assessment, apply plenty of water for a week or so, you don't want that grass to get stressed if things are dry. Let the grass recover and after a few cuttings the problem will go away.

A number of years ago I ended up with a similar problem and found that the drop spreader I had purchased from a big box store was defective (I discovered this by filling it with sand and going back and forth on the driveway, the thing was not putting down a consistent layer of material from pass to pass).

Yes, I used a drop spreader. I checked out the distribution on the street before applying to the grass to ensure even distribution.

I think my passes were off plus using a drop spreader instead of a rotary.

When I got home yesterday, it actually looked 10x better than this. I think I am going to wait it out a few weeks more (2-3), cut the grass once a week, and water thoroughly.

Like you guys said, I don't want to ruin anything as it seems like it's getting better - it has been raining on and off constantly for a few days now.

So you guys recommend just waiting it out and re-doing the entire yard with a rotary spreader vertically and horizontally, right?
