 o
pre emergent on new sod

I have seen so many of these brand new subdivisions in my area (atlanta) with new sod and oh my gosh the weeds that are so soon sprouting up in it.

I too am soon to have new sod laid and was wondering if there is either a pre emergent I need to use or some sort of weed control for new sod.

I wouldn't use a preemergent. Most preemergents work by stopping cell division. This could inhibit or stop root growth in your new sod, not something you want to do. Using weed killer like Weed B Gone Max should be OK a few weeks after the sod is laid. As always, read the label and follow their directions.

depending on the sod. Wait for a week or two for the sod to be rooted in and then spray surflan for bermudagrass, buffalograss, centipede, tall fescue, zoysia, and st. augustin.
Surflan stops cell division in seedlings but not mature grass.

I would also use tiemco's advice and spray a selective weed killer on any weeds that make it up.
