step-by-step re sod my yard

So...

I posted here last year about this time on how I seeded my brand new Tif 419 lawn with common Bermuda because it was laid during the winter and wasn't growing fast enough. I leveled my yard and have cut it nice and low very often but it still hurts my heart every time I see those redish common roots.

So I'm starting over. And this is my plan. Tell me what you think.

1. Monday - Round-Up
2. Friday - Sod cutter to remove grass and roots
3. Friday - Power rake to loosen up soil and remove debris
3. Friday - Amend with top soil and level
4. Saturday - Apply 10-10-10
5. Saturday - Wet fert and soil in preparation for sod
6. Saturday - Lay Tif 419
7. Future - LOTS of water (irrigation system)

This won't be done this week, but I'm just planning out a typical week. I'm trying to compress this and lessen the downtime as much as possible because I live in a new neighborhood with very strict HOA guidelines.

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

After #6, you need to roll it with a water filled roller. Actually I would roll it after #4 too.

Ahh... Yes...

Thank you Rager. I forgot about those two steps. We were planning to roll in preparation for sod (#5) and then roll after sodding.

The contractor's didn't roll when they originally laid the sod and it was a MESS.

My hope is that I can get away with minimal leveling after the fact.

I only have experience with Bermuda vs. St. Augustine and Bermuda vs. Buffalo -- not Bermuda vs. Bermuda, BUT, do you think the new sod is going to keep the Common from coming back up?

The HOA thing is a problem, but I would probably water the dirt for a few days after step 2, then Roundup again to give the old stuff a thorough beatdown. If time and appearance wasn't an issue, I'd probably repeat 2 or 3 times.

Again, I've never tried to intentionally grow Bermuda, but having spent a lot of time trying to kill it, I wouldn't expect one round of Roundup to do it.
