Seed Heads and Stemmy Grass

After doing lots of reno stuff last Fall, I was really looking forward to this year's lawn...right now, I'm not liking it much! I planted Midnight KBG and a high end blend of perennial rye- both of which seem to be stemming and seed heading all over the place. The shade of green is lighter than the rest of the lawn, so I feared I had the dreaded poa annua...but after looking at the turf tip link from Purdue University, it doesn't look like it, but the diagnostic part is hard for a non expert, even with a magnifying glass. Best case scenario is the stemmy stuff is KBG and the seed head stuff is the rye- but how long is it going to look crummy?? I've been cutting twice a week and by day 2 after a fresh cut, it looks raggy to me- dropped the mower height and the seedy stuff cut clean, but the stemmy stuff looked worse...oh maaaannnn. Thanks!
