| So i got my lawn started, everything looks good, after a week it starts coming up i can't be more happy, however its very thin, is that normal? Regaurdless I added more seed after the current grass started coming up.. Did I hose anything by doing this? My watering schedule is still twice a day unless its raining, only enough to keep it wet not soggy, i did a heavy/deep watering the first time though.. I used PRG seed (landscapers mix?)..
So do I just have to wait for the newest seed to catch up then lay off the water a little at a time? Is it normal to have a thin lawn get thicker? I guess what I am asking is, is one seed one blade of grass or a grouping that will eventually grow together with everything? Mowing, in order to mow at the correct length/height when the new seeds are a week apart? advise? I am not sure if my mower is a mulch mower, will look into that, but I'm getting mixed reviews on wheather to bag or not at first mow? I also over seeded the entire lawn that isn't getting a redue, I have gone a little over 2 weeks without a mow and its getting to the out of control point.. if I mow with out the bag in the over seeded area will the seed just move around so to speak? if it hasn't germinated yet? or would it be best to just let it go another week to give it time, and on the highest setting.. Thanks,

| PRG starts as a single blade when it first germinates. When you mow, it starts to thicken and tiller, becoming a bunch, so yes a thin new lawn will thicken up. If you seeded at the correct rate, and your germination was normal, then there was no need to add more. Could this cause problems, possibly, grass that's too thick when it's new can stay wet for a long time, which isn't good. One week apart is no big deal in terms of mowing, just wait till it's all about 3 inches tall and cut it down to 2. I like to bag mow new grass, as it's not strong enough to support any clumps of clippings. When you mow an overseed it all depends on what stage the overseed is at. Seeds haven't germinated yet, mulch mow, but double cut, north south, then east west to really chop up the clippings. If it's really long at that point, say 5 or 6 inches, then cut it to 3.5-4 the first cut, then 2.0-2.5 the second cut. If the overseed has seedlings, I would bag mow, single cut to minimize walking on seedlings. |

| Thanks Tiemco.. I'll just keep watering and give it a mow after it reachs length, if in the fall it still looks thin would that be the time to overseed and feed? I have some pics of my current growth I'll try and post.. |

| Yes, late summer/early fall is the best time to seed/overseed, when the air is drier and the nights are cooler. |
