| Back with a weed post this time...
I've investigated and identified an invasion in a few squares of new Bermuda tifway 419 (laid around a month ago). Around 12 squares in one corner of the hard are slowly filling with green kyllinga. I've read about using Certainty or Sedgehammer for post emergent control, but can I use either of these given that the sod is so new? Or am I best off just trying to pull each sprout slowly so as to try to pull out the root structure for now. I also have a few places where I'm seeing some dallisgrass sprouting up between squares but I think I can manage that one. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on the kyllinga/sedge problem! |

| New sod.....Only in 12 squares.....Pluck that **** out yesterday! Don't let it get a hold! Right now, since it is new sod, it is like you said, and has no real root structure. When that stuff gets in the ground though, it is as tough as weeds come because of all it's underground parts. Hard to get herbicide to them in concentration that will kill the underground reproducing parts. Plus you need to keep herbicides off your new grass this season preferably. |

| Absolutely try pulling the kyllinga first. If you catch it you have a chance of eradicating it. Kyllinga is related to nut grass and looks like it until you see the seed heads. But kyllinga will grow in hot dry soil while nutgrass prefers soggy soil. |
