Advice Wanted on Lawn Repair; See Pic

Hi all,

I live in Chicagoland and have a typical quarter-acre yard covered with Kentucky Blue Grass. I have had a lawn chemical service for the past several years.

As the picture shows, most of the lawn is green and growing well, but some significant areas were damaged by drought, and also a couple of rabbit warrens and anthills, last year. I am now committed to weekly deep watering this year!

I am guessing I should seed the bare areas shown.

- Should it be more KBG seed, or a particular blend?
- After putting down some soil, what cover can I put over the seed? (In the past, all seeding efforts have failed, as pounding rain exposed or washed away the seed.
- What starter, compost or "other" do you like to help the seed along, if any?
- The lawn service put down liquid weed/feed, but NOT a pre-emergent, a week ago, and we've had a good rain since. Do I need to wait?

Thanks for your thoughts.
