New kentucky bluegrass sod with dying area

| Hey all,
Just had a question about my sod that I planted 3 and a half weeks ago. I tilled and composted, and followed a good watering routine- watered 3 times a day for the first 2 weeks and switched to every other day on third week. Everything was looking great and healthy, rooted fine. During week three it got hot(90 degrees) for a couple days and I noticed an area next to some metal edging that was dying, turned yellow and seemed dry. This was about 5 days ago. Since then I have fertilized and watered the dying area extra. Still hasnt recovered. Here is a link to a picture: http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss6/avvallejos/IMAG0299.jpg?t=13365
26604. Any tips are appreciated. |

| I couldn't get your picture, but hopefully it has just gone dormant. The metal edging is going to magnify the heat (during the heat of summer the first grass to go dormant is next to concrete surfaces because of the heat). I'd remove it if possible. Keep watering it and it may recover, unlike many other grasses, KGB is pretty heat resistant. Unfortunately, fertilizing was probably not a good idea. |

| Well I can see the pic, and from the way the grass and the edging look, I don't think it's from the heat off the metal edging. If that was the case, then I think you would see more of the grass along the edging drying out, and it would be more uniform. The every other day watering should have provided enough moisture to prevent this, unless your sprinkler doesn't reach the area. Since you tilled and composted I assume the area in question doesn't have any large rocks a few inches below the surface in that area. I'm inclined to say it was fungal in nature since it was hot, and you were watering every other day. Where are you located by the way and when do you do your watering? |

| Viewed your picture, finally. That does not look like a heat related issue. That die off looks very simular to the die off we get in our tree lawns from salt. I see the sod is divided by the metal strip from a mulch area. Are you using anything to keep the mulch area clear of weeds that might have leached into the sod? I'm inclined to think something has leached from the mulch area into the sod and killed the sod. |

| I live in colorado springs, colorado. I'm not sure what is under the mulch. It was there when I moved in and I just topped it off with new matching mulch. I have been watering in the evenings, just before dark. Should I water in the mornings instead? The yellow areas in the picture arent completely dead yet, there are still some green blades. |
