 o
dying grass

I need some serious answers about grass. My lawn had two huge spots with missing grass. I put several bags of topsoil on the spots and kind of mixed it in. In may I then put Pennington Pennsylvaina Mix grass seed down. I covered it with straw until it grew out and needed to be cut. It was watered daily and was looking beautiful. Now weeks later it is all brown and looks like weed and lawn killer was sprayed on it. Please tell me what to do. I am at a total loss. Thanks in advance for all your help.

RE: dying grass

The grass probably succumbed to fungal disease. Cool season grasses that are planted in late spring or summer often thin out due to disease and or heat stress. Watering grass daily after is has all germinated is also a mistake, as that doesn't allow proper root growth, and keeps the grass and soil continually wet, perfect for pathogenic fungi. Wait till the heat and humidity break in late summer to seed cool season grass, that is the ideal time. Also make sure you aren't seeding too heavily, as that can lead to die off as well.
