| We had some concrete coat part of the lawn 3 days ago to the point where the grass became gray. I noticed this morning that soe of the grass in those areas is *just* starting to yellow, conceivably due to the basic pH of the conrete that is concentrated in those areas.
What can I add to the soil or spray on the lawn (today) to counteract this pH raising before it gets worse and kills off the grass in those areas? I have acetic acid in the form of vinegar, but that might be too strong, even when diluted I would guess. The grass in that area is Kentucky bluegrass. Thanks. |

| I can tell you not to use vinegar as many organic folks advise it's use as a weed killer. Most likely the problem is the grass blades' absorbing it directly. I would suggest you wash the blades off. The amount of lime that would be put into the soil should be nowhere near enough to affect your lawn permanently as it takes a lot of lime to change the ph. |

| Where do you live? Is it too late to wash the concrete off? I'd try wetting it and pushing a push broom over it. If that damages the turf right away, stop. Otherwise give it a little scrub and see what happens. |

| Thanks to both of you for the similar suggestions. I did sweep a lot of it off yesterday (it was a dry day). It remains to be seen if the leaves die off much or not. And it's raining right now, so it's being washed as I type this. I have used vinegar as a weed killer. Techically it's a weak acid (unlike HCl). In theory, if you had a dilute enough solution, it might work, but...somewhat acidic rain will probably have a similar effect! Regardless, water is a good buffer, so we'll see what happens. |

| I meant to say, water is a good solvent for minerals. Not buffer. At least I haven't done the soil testing yet. So I will be able to see if there's an effect or not. |
