Compacted clay soil?

I have numerous areas of my Bermuda lawn where the soil is very compacted.

In those areas you can see the difference in the lawn condition by just looking. The places where I can sink a screwdriver up to four inches are lush and dark green. The places where I can only get the screwdriver in maybe an inch are thin and more yellow than green.

I have a pull behind lawn tractor aerator that I usually use twice a season. It works fine for the non compacted areas but I'm thinking I'm not going to get very big plugs, if any, from those seriously compacted areas.

I've tried the baby shampoo idea with no luck. Will bags of soil conditioner help? Is there a liquid soil conditioner that actually works?

I took some soil to my state agronomics dept yesterday so it will be at least another week before I get those results back.

I'm really worried because the heat is coming. Temps next week from 92-98 all week.

Thanks for any input.
