Bermuda Sahara Question

So I gaving up on my fescue lawn, with these past 3 BRUTAL summers, the amount of water needed to keep it going is becoming more than I want. I figure I would go with Sahara Bermuda as I can feed it to my pet rabbits and its cheap to seed.

I am wondering if its too late to seed? I was told it could be done in summer but its pretty brutally hot atm. High today is suppose to be 103F and its currently 94F (boiled a tomato on the vine) Common sense tells me no, but I would like to get it started this year if at all possible.

Thank you.

Doesn't bermuda thrive in hot weather? I would assume the seed would germinate quicker.

The actual Bermuda does but not sure on the seed, my thought is it might be too intense as it just starts off.

The trick will be keeping it watered, but yes, you can seed now. Not too late, so long as you are able to keep the seed bed moist in this heat.

And you'll have to keep things well watered after the seedlings emerge and are trying to establish themselves.

I am curious how late can you actually seed? Looking at the next 30 days I see no rain and no ease on the temperatures, I might need to wait till next year to do this.

It is a little late only because summer heat and drought is setting in. If you can keep the seed bed moist in this heat for 2 weeks you can do it.

But no you do not want to wait a month to wait for a cooler spell. You need enough time for the Bermuda to establish itself and get acclimated before first frost when it goes dormant. Otherwise you will have reel shallow tender roots and if they freeze during the winter are toast.
