| Hello,
Looking for a bit of help diagnosing a problem with my lawn. In the picture you will streaks of lighter green grass. It's surely light grass and not sun shining through the treetops. I have no idea what these are from. This part of the lawn is over a leach field. The soil isn't the best as you would expect above a leach field. So the grass that does grow isn't very robust at all. But up until this last week it was at least always the same color of green. what I know:
Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be? Thanks |

| That has to be the weirdest thing I've seen here in recent memory. You're not the guy who had the slip and slide set up for the birthday party are you? What you have is one very dark green stripe and the rest is yellowing somewhat compared to that green stripe. Afraid I can't help with that specific issue but I can help you tune up your lawn. It looks like you have brown and thin spots where you can see bare soil. Is that what I'm seeing? If that's what I'm seeing then you likely have a 100% fescue lawn that ought to be overseeded in the fall to fill in the holes. If you are not mowing fescue at your mower's highest setting then you should raise it especially during the summer. In fact in the heat of summer you can miss a week or so to get through the warm/dry times much better. Then when the temps cool off you can bring it down to the highest setting again. If you feel the need to fertilize during the summer, use only organic fertilizer like alfalfa pellets. Chemical fertilizers will stress the grass in addition to the heat and dryness. Organic fertilizer will not add stress to the plants. |

| This is just my guess, I am not a lawn guru by any means. You said that the grass is over a leach field from a septic system? Well my back yard looks the same way... This is likely due to the higher availability of water and other....organic material in the ground. The yellowing grass may be going dormant. Are you sure that you are putting down enough water? |

| I don't know a lot about leach fields, but I think the yellow lines must correspond to the trenches that contain the leaching pipes. Yellowing grass over a leach field or septic tank can be an indication that it's not working correctly. I would call a reputable septic tank specialist to make sure that your system is not malfunctioning. This is something you don't want to get out of hand, and I think it is beyond the scope of this forum unless someone on here has had similar septic issues. |
