What are the grasses involved?

Generally organic fertilizers provide better color and do not encourage as fast a growth as most of the chemical ferts. You can use them at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet any time you want. Stay away from organic fertilizers which have feather meal as the first ingredient. Those don't encourage color or growth.

How often do you water and how long each time?

Thanks for your message. We live in Yorkshire, UK. I have attached a pic, of the lawn that we sowed last year. I'm afraid we do not know the type of seed but can it be identified from the picture? The newer patchy lawn doesnt look v green in pic but it is actually quite green when it grows a bit - it has just been mowed in this pic. Will post a further pic o the older lawn.

We live in UK where it generally rains quite a lot so we dont water it - the weather takes care of that! When it was first sowed we watered it every week if we were having a drier spell. We used an 'Evergreen' product and it doesnt have feather meal listed in ingredients. Can you advise any further please?
